The amount of creative talent that we have within the British Bangladeshi community is not highlighted enough, as often the focus is on the achievements in some of the other sectors which have taken a precedent, such as academic and business achievements. These awards are not just about recognizing those who have succeeded and done well in this sector, but also about highlighting and promoting the creative industries as a career choice, as the fashion industry is a £37 billion a year industry and one that is growing fast, with lots of opportunities.’
He continued: ‘We were also delighted to recognize some amazing talents in Bangladesh within the fashion sector. The Bangladesh fashion scene, beyond the Ready Made Garment (RMG) sector, has seen tremendous development over the last few years. Designers like Sarah Karim, who won Fashion Designer of the Year – International, are helping to set the trend and their creativity and quality is amazing and needs international exposure. Equally the two models who won awards, are doing so well in the industry, that they too need to be recognized internationally. Finally, the Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Maheen Khan, has been doing so much to promote Bangladeshi fashion designers, natural textiles, artisans and others, for several decades, she is an inspiration to many and her work is having a massive impact on the industry.’
